As pastor of care & outreach at Shoreline Church I meet children and youth who are desperately wanting to be accepted and loved. I receive just as many phone calls from educators, community social workers, family members and sometimes teens who are aging out - all looking for support services which transform lives.
Some days are harder than others. As I was working on the Caleb 5K website, I received a phone call from an Emergency Response Team member who was working with a student desperately in need of services. We collaborated and prayed and brainstormed as we explored organizations that would qualify this student and provide help. Meanwhile, it seems we have exhausted all options. This feeling of helplessness is etched in my heart.
Then there are other days where I am filled with hope because we live in a great city with exceptional organizations that help the next generation. I am running to champion the rights of children - so they can all be qualified to discover their self-worth and achieve their purpose through education, restorative health services, life skills, and character development before they become adults.
